The word Asempa comes from the Akan language of Ghana, West Africa and literally means: good things, good events: good stuff. Asempa! is all things good. It is the goodness that is and the goodness that will continue to be. Through song we expose the narratives of the pre-colonial era to the apartheid-era, and of the liberation-era to modernity.
Asempa! is a musical venture to engender goodness, specifically the goodness of the African tradition and people, wherever we are through lyric and rhythm. We seek to both give voice, through song, to the vast collection of human stories, experiences, and lessons in this region and across the African world.
